PayLease Affirms its Expertise in Utility Billing and Submetering

PayLease today announced that it is an active member of the Utility Management and Conservation Association (UMCA), a non-profit coalition that promotes conservation through initiatives and products related to submetering and utility billing. The UMCA serves multifamily and commercial real estate companies, and has approximately 50 vendors who service these industries as part of its association. By actively involving itself with the UMCA, PayLease is able to stay at the forefront of the ever-changing rules and regulations of submetering and energy usage within each state.

In addition to being a member in good standing, two PayLease executives have been appointed to UMCA’s internal committees. Ben Truehart, SVP of Strategy & Product Management serves on the UMCA’s Board of Directors. Keith Omsberg, PayLease’s General Counsel serves on the UMCA Government Affairs Committee.

Ben Truehart will also be speaking on behalf of the UMCA at the NMHC OpTech Conference in Dallas, TX on November 15th. The session, “Utility Cost and Reduction Strategies”, will provide an overview of utility cost recoup and reduction programs, best practices for implementation, and recent trends. Topics will include billing back utilities, in-rent versus bill-back numbers, state and local regulatory considerations, and customer service implications including communication throughout the changeover, lease changes and disclosures and responding to resident inquiries.

Commenting on PayLease’s affiliation with the UMCA, Truehart said “The UMCA is the best equipped industry organization to bring metering suppliers, billers and management companies around the same table for the betterment of utility conservation. Whether establishing best practices, driving legislative change or providing a forum for collaboration and innovation – the UMCA is, and will be, the tip of the sword.”
